Digital Technologies

For those who are looking for a computer science degree with a high application focus, the DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES study program is just right. The joint study program of Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences and TU Clausthal is characterized by its innovative mix of the subjects of computer science, the interdisciplinary digitization projects and the six application areas (Autonomous Systems, Circular Economy & Environmental Technology, Digital Transformation, Energy, Industry 4.0, Mobility) in equal parts. The bachelor's program provides competencies for successful digitization in industry, research and administration, which often takes place at the transition from computer science to the application area. The subjects of computer science form the basis of the study program. From the second semester on, students choose their individual application area and thus determine their specialist focus. In addition, there are the interdisciplinary digitization projects - the heart of the DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES study program. In these projects, students from different semesters apply their knowledge and test it in a practical context.

The best comes at the end...

The evaluation of the digitization projects replaces two theoretical examinations of a classical course of study in each semester. In addition, with the successful bachelor's degree in DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, you receive a degree from a university and college. This means that all doors are open to you for your career in both business and science. A strong mix that only the TU Clausthal and Ostfalia University can offer together!

Three locations, two universities, one study program

Students in the DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES program are enrolled at both Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences and Clausthal University of Technology and can make equal use of the infrastructure and wide range of offerings, such as sports facilities, libraries, language centers, etc., at both institutions. Students spend the first year of the bachelor's program in Goslar, the headquarters of the Center for Digital Technologies. The introductory block courses and lectures of the first two semesters take place here. Facilities are also available here for work on the digitization projects. Subsequently, the courses take place at both universities with their locations in Wolfenbüttel, Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Goslar. The choice of the application area determines the main place of study.

Job profile and labor market

After completing your bachelor's degree, you can continue your studies in the DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES master's program. Likewise, a subsequent doctorate.

Students can already establish and consolidate extensive contacts with partner companies of the universities as potential employers through the digitization projects - the best prerequisites for a career start in the free economy.

Depending on the field of study, you can develop next-generation recycling robots, invent even smarter control apps for buildings or production processes, or design and develop apps for future mobility services. No matter what our DigiTecs choose, they are always at the forefront at the interface between computer science and the application field.

Computer science

No other discipline develops as rapidly and produces as many innovations in relation to everyday life as computer science. Computer scientists are all-rounders who shape the future. In the bachelor's program DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES, students acquire basic technical and methodological knowledge of computer science and mathematics. This includes the basics of software development as well as in-depth knowledge of special topics in computer science such as:

  • Programming techniques with Python and JAVA
  • Internet of Things (IoT), Cyber-Physical- Systems (CPS)
  • Model-based system development
  • Databases and Security & Privacy
  • Robotics and Machine Learning
  • Mathematical foundations of computer science

The six application areas

Students choose the application area that interests them most and set their professional focus. Thus, they gain insights and experience in modern business fields of economy and industry already during their studies - the best prerequisites for an excellent start into their future professional life! They can choose from the following application areas:

  • AUTONOME SYSTEMS Here, fundamentals and in-depth knowledge of robotics as well as correlations between the prediction and behavior of autonomous systems are taught.
  • CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNOLOGY How are raw materials extracted and processed? How can digital technologies be used in the context of environmental protection as well as for the simulation of environmental systems?
  • DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION Here, innovative business models, sustainable innovations, and improved business processes and services are developed using data and new technologies of digitalization.
  • ENERGY In addition to the fundamentals of electrical engineering and thermodynamics, this application area deals with the essential aspects of technical building equipment such as air conditioning and ventilation technology.
  • INDUSTRY 4.0 ...includes digital production with diverse aspects from measurement technology to automation technology as well as computer-integrated and additive manufacturing processes.
  • MOBILITY This application area teaches the fundamentals of traffic and logistics, traffic control and management, and automated traffic systems.

The interdisciplinary digitization projects

The innovative bachelor's program DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES teaches not only the theoretical basics, but also broad application skills and various soft skills, such as project management, creative methods and team-building measures. This takes place in the interdisciplinary digitization projects that accompany the course.

Different projects from research and practice are offered during the semester. The students thus always have a close application reference and learn to work on concrete problems in a team at an early stage.

The special feature is that the projects are offered across semesters. This means, for example, that in the project for the development of an HMI design, a student from the second semester takes on simple programming tasks in his team, the student from the third semester designs the architecture and a student from the fifth semester can take on the project management and thus deepen the content of project management.
